This presentation reviews existing solutions for power supply design in external AC-DC adapter applications, and proposes a new two-stages solution with a ZVS Flyback and a totem-pole PFC, both with quite some innovative features. There are experimental results and comparisons showing substantial superiority of the proposed solution on efficiency across a wide operating range. At the same time, the proposed solution also keeps a very simple Bill of Materials (BOM), which makes it highly feasible for practical designs and production in the consumer market.
