This paper proposes a novel modulation technique for the Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter that introduces a new degree of freedom to control the power delivered to the load. The proposed approach minimizes circulating currents at light load across various voltage gain conditions and extends soft switching capabilities compared to the conventional Single-Phase Shift Modulation (SPS), following a simple and intuitive strategy. The modulation concept is based on modifying the voltage across the converter inductor, initially obtained using standard SPS , introducing current pauses by simultaneously setting the input and output bridge voltages to zero, (distinct from triangular modulation) according to a control parameter. This strategy effectively replicates the current waveforms of a switched-inductor DAB, but without requiring bidirectional switches and their associated drawbacks.
