Conventional Buck converters face two main issues when operating in wide input scenarios: 1) Efficiency degradation caused by hard switching; 2) Deterioration of transient response caused by traditional multi-mode control. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-mode ZVS-Buck converter for wide input applications. The proposed multi-mode control scheme adopts CrCM mode, DCM mode, and COT mode to improve efficiency over the whole load condition, and a high-speed mode transition control method is proposed to improve transient response. The experimental results show that the proposed ZVS-Buck converter can output 3.3V/10A at the input voltage of 5V~36V, and achieve a peak efficiency of 97.36%. During a load change between 0.1A and 10A, the recovery time is less than 8.86μs, and without overshoot or undershoot voltage.
