This paper presents a hybrid topology for 48V point-of-load (PoL) DC-DC conversion. The proposed Series Double Dickson (SDD) converter merges a 4:1 Dickson switched-capacitor converter with a symmetric dual-inductor hybrid (SDIH) converter to achieve a high voltage conversion ratio with high power density and high efficiency. The front-end 4:1 Dickson SC stage reduces the capacitor energy storage requirement compared to the conventional N-level SDIH converter, while the subsequent SDIH stage lowers the voltage stresses on both the inductors and power switches. For the driver stage, this work uses a minimal number of driver ICs together with diodes and bootstrap capacitors for high-side switches without sacrificing the driving capability.
