Multiphase machines are attracting attention in the field of electric drives due to their unique advantages and capabilities. These machines offer improved fault tolerance, high power density, and enhanced reliability. However, to fully exploit the potential of multiphase machines, advanced control is necessary. Consequently, model predictive control (MPC) techniques have emerged as alternatives to conventional methods, offering advantages such as fast dynamic response and straightforward implementation. Furthermore, symmetrical six-phase machines offer various winding changeover technique connections. Unlike three-phase machines, which are typically wound in star or delta configurations, six-phase electric machines offer additional options such as single star, double star and hexagon configurations. This research examines the impact of three winding connections in the performance of a symmetrical six-phase induction motor (S6PIM) when employing MPC. The performance of the different winding connections was evaluated in the experimental results.
