Advanced magnetics play a key role in improving the performance of voltage regulators in AI, Communications and Datacenter markets. A new approach for magnetics in multi-phase converters is proposed in this paper as linked coupled inductors (LCL). The coupled inductors are linked together by the couple of main phases in series, not by secondary windings as in case of trans-inductor voltage regulator (TLVR) or boosted coupled inductors (BCL). The theory of operation and analytical model are developed, while experimental results confirm the significant benefits of LCL.
