This paper proposes an overvoltage mitigation using variable switching frequency discontinuous PWM in SiC inverter systems. Varying switching frequency in this paper ensures sufficient application of zero-vector voltage in each DPWM interval to suppress double pulsing effect. These frequencies are classified into the double pulsing effect mitigation frequency and compensating frequency for reduced switching count. The switching frequency required to mitigate the double pulsing effect, and the compensating frequency are mathematically derived. A flowchart is presented to explain the algorithm of the proposed method. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulations and experiments. Additional experimental results and deep analysis under various conditions will be added in the final paper.
