Challenges of parameter mismatch and wide operat- ing frequency ranges in resonant converters (RCs) are addressed through the recently proposed switch-assisted rectifier (SAR) topology. The SAR topology introduces a bidirectional switch (BDS) between the ac terminals of the rectifier stage of an RC, thus making it controllable to an extent. However, the exact analysis of SAR-based RCs, necessary for evaluating performance metrics such as soft switching range and rms current, is not available in the literature. This paper proposes an exact analysis technique of a SAR-based series resonant converter (SRC) based on the state plane method. The operation of the SAR- based SRC is analyzed and its trajectory on the state plane derived. The proposed analysis of the SAR-based SRC is verified through simulations and preliminary experimental results on a 400V/48V, 2.5kW prototype.
