Several techniques will be introduced for determining the junction temperature of MOSFETs in any application. Detailed analysis using various software simulation environments is often overly time-consuming and unnecessarily complex. First-order-of-magnitude approximations can be quickly determined through simple calculations, a spreadsheet, or SPICE tools. A basic understanding of Cauer Models or Zth diagrams is helpful but not essential. Maximum junction temperature analysis is critical to selecting proper MOSFETs for any application.
