Fred Wang received the B.S. degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, in 1982, 1985, and 1990, respectively, all in electrical engineering. Dr. Wang has been with The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) since 2009 as a Professor and Condra Chair of Excellence in Power Electronics. He is a cofounder and the Technical Director of the NSF/DOE established Engineering Research Center. Prior to joining UTK, Dr. Wang was a faculty member and the Technical Director at CPES, Virginia Tech during 2001 to 2009. From 1992 to 2001, he worked for General Electric Company in several engineering and managerial positions. He was a research scientist at the USC Power Lab from 1990 to 1992. His current research focuses on power electronics applications in grid and electrified transportation. Dr. Wang is a fellow of IEEE and a fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors.
