Erdem Asa (Senior Member’19) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, Brooklyn, NY, USA, in 2016. He is currently a R&D Associate member with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Knoxville, TN. He has authored or co-authored over 40 journals and conference papers. Before, he joined ORNL, he was a Design / Control Power Electronics Engineer with GE Aviation between 2016 to 2019. His current research interests include isolated and non-isolated dc–dc converters, power converters for aviation industry, plug-in electric and hybrid electric vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles and wireless energy transfer applications.
Dr. Asa was a recipient of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) and the Industrial Applications Society (IAS), New York Chapter, and the Ph.D. Distinguished Student Award in 2014. In 2016, he received IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) student travel grant to attend Applied Power Electronics Conference & Exposition (APEC). He was awarded the Dante Youla Graduate Research Excellence and the Athanasios Papoulis Graduate Teaching Excellence from New York University, New York, NY, USA in 2016. He also received the "General Electric Growth Values" and "General Electric Belief Award" rewards from GE Aviation in 2017 and 2018, respectively. He is the inventor of "Oak Ridge Converter (ORC)", licensed by HEVO Inc, Brooklyn NY in 2021. He is awarded Technology Commercialization Fund (2021-2023) by DOE and having highlighted by Secretary Granholm among 68 newly awarded projects.
