This presentation will discuss the issue of bootstrap capacitor overcharge in half-bridge circuits, especially in the context of gallium nitride (GaN) high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) devices. The presentation will cover both how bootstrap overcharge occurs, as well as the potential issues arising from bootstrap overcharge. Lastly, the presentation will also compare different methods of reducing or controlling bootstrap overcharge and their respective trade-offs.
