Tampering with electricity meters by placing a strong magnet close to the meter’s power supply is a common practice to illegally lower the meter’s energy reading. This magnet can interrupt or potentially even destroy the meter’s power supply, rendering it inoperative and interrupting the metering functionality. This presentation covers a robust and simple offline quasi-resonant (QR) flyback design which is immune to such magnetic tampering.
