This topic will discuss a single-stage, low-output ripple, flyback converter with high PF and low THD using a switched valley fill (SVF) circuit and a variable-frequency, variable-current controller.
Most single-stage high power factor flyback designs usually result in high output ripple. An additional stage (e.g. buck) is typically used to achieve low ripple – which adds to the system cost and reduces system efficiency. Low ripple design is desirable in many industrial applications such as LED lighting. Cost is another factor. SVF addresses both cost and low output ripple requirements in a single stage configuration.
