Sina Navaiyan Kalat is a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering whose research focuses on modular multilevel converters (MMCs) for high-power and high-voltage applications. His doctoral work centers on MMC modeling, modulation, and internal dynamics.
He holds two master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. His first MSc focused on dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT), where he worked on high-frequency power electronics, resonant converter design, magnetic coupling analysis, and efficiency optimization under dynamic operating conditions in University of Tehran, Iran. He later completed a second master’s degree at the University of Nebraska– Lincoln, USA, further strengthening his background in power electronics, converter analysis, and advanced energy systems.
This combined training in high-frequency resonant systems and large-scale multilevel converters informs his current research approach, which bridges analytical modeling and practical design considerations. His PhD work aims to improve MMC performance, scalability, and efficiency for applications such as HVDC transmission, transportation electrification, and advanced power grid systems.
His broader research interests include power electronic converter optimization, harmonic mitigation, analytically grounded control methods, and the design of scalable architectures for next-generation energy systems.
