    D03.7 - Analysis and Evaluation of Zero Switching Loss CrM for LCC Converter in Capacitor Charging Power Supply

    The LCC resonant converter is widely used in capacitor-charging power supplies (CCPS). However, CCPS applications such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation require a wide output voltage range, making it difficult to maintain soft switching across all operating points. This article analyzes the zero-switching loss (ZSL) operation under critical conduction mode (CrM) of the LCC converter in CCPS. Loss models for ZSL CrM and conventional CrM (CCrM) are all presented and compared. A 1 kW/1.5 kV CCPS prototype has been built for efficiency and thermal property evaluation. Results show that the switching losses of ZSL CrM are reduced by 53.4 % and 70.6 % compared to those of CCrM and CCM, respectively. ZSL operation reduces the switches’ heat dissipation requirement, improves converter efficiency, which could be potentially applied in high efficiency and high power density CCPS.
