Silicon carbide Power MOSFETs have become the standard for advanced electrified mobility over the last years. Compared to silicon, SiC offers superior conductivity, faster switching, lower thermal losses, and operation at higher temperatures- significantly reducing cooling needs and maximizing the efficiency.
Bosch has over two decades of expertise in automotive MOSFETs and SiC technology and has been mass producing SiC chips Reutlingen, Germany, since 2021. Transfer of production to 200 mm wafers has been successfully completed, and Bosch is ramping a second 200 mm fab in Roseville, California, with a start of production in 2026. Leveraging the outstanding expertise in trench technology, Bosch developed a proprietary SiC trench etch process for increased power density, enabling a strong roadmap of future chip generations.
In addition to discrete SiC MOSFETs, Bosch offers tailored power module solutions for electric mobility. This includes the SiC based DSL module as well as the PM6 power module, designed for high efficiency inverters, enabling compact system designs and improved overall powertrain performance. To meet the growing demand, Bosch is expanding its SiC manufacturing capacities in Germany and the U.S.. Together with our global partners we pave the way for a resilient and sustainable supply chain for SiC chips.
