The paper deals with analysis, modeling and comparison of advanced modulation techniques for a high frequency three phase SiC based AFE “Active Front End” AC/DC converter, to highlight the actual performance under different operating conditions. This analysis helps in the understanding of the effect of the modulation technique on the power converter performance, such as power quality and efficiency. Theoretical models for Continuous PWM (CPWM) and Discontinuous PWM (DPWM) are proposed to evaluate the impact of each of them. Finally, the theoretical approach is validated through a T-type converter prototype, controlled by 32-bit MCU, highlighting the benefits of each proposed modulation technique.
