VIrginia Tech
Rolando Burgos is a professor in The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virgnia Tech, and a faculty member of the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES), where he served as Director from 2021-2025; he is presently a member of the CPES Executive Board. He is the past Chair for the IEEE Energy Conversion Congress & Expo (ECCE) Steering Committee, after having served as General Chair of ECCE 2024. Previously, he was the chair of the IEEE Power Electronics Society’s Technical Committee on "Power and Control Core Technologies." He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Concepción in 1999 and 2002, respectively. Dr. Burgos joined CPES as a postdoctoral fellow in 2002, later becoming a research scientist and research assistant professor. In 2009 he joined ABB Corporate Research in Raleigh, NC, returning to Virginia Tech in 2012 as an associate professor. He earned and early-decision tenure in 2017, and was promoted to professor in 2019, where he continues to work on the development of advanced power electronics converters and systems.
